South West local gets AFL call up
The Geelong Cats have confirmed former Heywood and Portland young gun Jamaine Jones will make his AFL debut on Saturday night against Carlton.
Jones was rookie drafted by the Cats ahead of the 2017 season and has impressed many since arriving at the club.
The 19-year-old has produced a stellar month of football for Geelong in the VFL.
And Geelong coach Chris Scott says Jones has worked hard for his spot.
"It's absolutely based on merit," Scott said of Jones' selection.
"He was strongly considered last week on the back of some good VFL form.
"Then played really well again on the weekend, probably our best player against Essendon.
"He is a small forward that is dangerous with the ball and he has got some energy, and is a really good pressure player as well.
"So he is going to compliment some of the players that we've got in that part of the ground."
