Historic polling booths axed
Community members in the more isolated areas of the Wannon electorate, have been left dumbfounded by the axing of 11 historic polling booths.
A handful of towns surrounding the Hamilton and Portland areas have been affected, with the Australian Electoral Commission confirming the closures just days before the Federal Election.
Polling booths at Caramut, Condah, Byaduk, Orford, Tatyoon and Tyrendarra will not be available anymore, forcing locals to make an extra effort to vote.
The AEC have said that unprecedented levels of pre-polling contributed to the closures, and also stated, the extra costings for staff at the booths was another contributing factor.
