R U OK? Day

Western District residents encouraged to take part

Today is national 'R U OK?' Day and residents in the Western District are being encouraged to ask someone in their life a simple question ... Are You Okay?

It can be a difficult question to ask for various reasons but a conversation could change a life.

It is the tenth National Day of Action and statistics from the 'R U OK?' website from a survey conducted earlier this year revealed:
• 51% of us were asked by someone if we were OK when we really needed it
• More than half of Australians (57%) in the last 12 months, wanted someone to ask them if they were ok
• While 52% of us thought about asking someone if they were ok, at least once, but didn’t

With around eight people in Australia taking their life each day more needs to be done to combat these statistics and to reduce the stigma.

James McInnes from the Western District Health Service says people need to remember it's okay not to be okay.
