Separate incidents

Portland police are seeking information from the public following the theft of two vehicles in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Taken from two different properties the investigations surround the theft of a red and white Crossfire 140cc dirtbike and a white Nissan Pathfinder.

The vehicle stolen which has the registration 1JX-7TM was taken from a Bolwarra Crt address along with a grinder chainsaw and other tools.

The motorbike was taken around the same time but from a Francis Street address in Portland.

Portland Police Detective Sergeant Jason von Tunk said the offending took place at a time when the community would less expect it, in the early hours and mid week, but thefts can happen at any time, anywhere.

"It's becoming quite prevalent that criminals are becoming more and more opportunistic, and we need the community to become much more aware of this," he said.

"The keys to the Nissan Pathfinder were in a garden shed and it was from there they stole items and then took the car as well."

Police are treating the thefts as separate crimes, but haven't ruled out that they may be related.

If anyone in the community has information regarding the thefts, they should call the Portland Police Station on 5522 1500 or Crimestoppers on 1800 33 000.
