Portland District Health CEO, Chris Giles stresses the seriousness of the COVID-19 pandemic and announces the fever assessment clinic which has been set up and ready to go since Monday, will open tomorrow (25.03.20) between the hours of 10-2pm.
Residents are still required to contact the clinic on their number: (03) 55 210 387 whereby a nurse will determine those eligible to be tested.
Giles says, “we are already seeing about 25-30 calls a day with people concerned they have a respiratory tract infection and what is their risk, asking what do they need to do”.
She says, “The key message for people in Portland that I really need to get across is stay at home. If you don’t need to be mixing with people don’t mix with people because you don’t know who’s likely to be contagious with the virus and who isn’t. They don’t have to have symptoms to be contagious.
Stay put, lock yourself down, particularly if you have a high risk or other health condition because I don’t want anyone to die, and COVID-19 is life threatening for a lot of people.”
“What will slow the spread of COVID-19 is following the simple guidelines found on the Better Care Victoria website: including maintaining good hand hygiene such as regularly washing your hands with soap and water for a minimum of 20 seconds, staying at least 1.5 metres from other people, and following healthy coughing and sneezing etiquette.”
