Victoria Police will be on the hunt for bad eggs this Easter as part of an annual road operation targeting poor driver behaviour.

With the launch of Operation Nexus Senior Sergeant Shane Keogh reminds the community everyone has a responsibility and a role to play in reducing road trauma.

Over the past 5 Easter long weekends, 6 lives have been lost and a further 864 people injured across the state.

Sergeant Shane Keogh said speeding is a leading killer on south-west roads.

"Thursday, the first of April, no April fools about this one. Runs for five days, till midnight Monday the 5th of April. We'll be out there in numbers right along al the highways and within the community we'll be visible. We'll be intercepting, we'll be looking for people speeding, drink and drug driving, mobile phone use, seatbelt offences and fatigue." He said.
