Ollie Anson's Story

Hamilton Community put their hands in their pockets

Hamilton's Ollie Anson is currently in a coma after sustaining injuries to his brain, jaw and eye socket.

On Sunday the 13th of June 2021 Ollie was enjoying a day at Hamilton's local falls. Whilst visiting Nigretta, Ollie climbed the concrete steps to sit on the rocks but slipped into the water. Andrew, Ollie's father was quick to react - jumping in after him. Ollie was transported to Hamilton Base Hospital for assessment, he was subsequently airlifted to The Royal Children's in Melbourne, where he has been in a Coma since.

“He is going well. He's responding well to medication; swelling is starting to subside a bit and go away in his head. Basically, from the neck down he's got a couple of scratches and a couple of marks. Until the MRI comes back that we're having today we won't know if there is spinal damage. And there's certainly head and facial fractures.” Andrew said.

The Hamilton community are supporting Ollie and his family with medical costs and any financial assistance they need via a go fund me page. It was established by Maria Raggatt who works alongside Andrew, at Finchetts. Currently the page has raised over $22,000.

Andrew and Tash, Ollie's mother, expressed their gratitude for the ongoing community support during this difficult time as they wait to see what recovery looks like for Ollie. “Phone calls, presents, messages upon messages and this go fund me has just blown Tash and me away. We are incredibly humbled by the generosity.”

Ollie's school Principal, who is currently on leave, has been calling every day, checking in, his friends miss him and hope for the best recovery.

“We've seen donations from people, friends, family, people we've never even met, it's just amazing the way that the community forms together. And we've seen it obviously with friends of ours who have had kids in worse scenarios than us and you know the support that they had was amazing and I just would not expect it but the town keeps fronting up.”

Andrew wanted to thank the community from the bottom of his heart for the well wishes and support.

“From the bottom of my heart we would have never expected the well wishes and support - it's just phenomenal.”
