Man in induced coma

Man in induced coma

A man in his 20s has been released from a Melbourne hospital just days after an assault that had him placed in an induced coma.

The victim, originally reported to be from Portland, was placed in an induced coma at Portland Base Hospital on Saturday morning, before being airlifted to The Alfred.

It’s alleged he was assaulted after suggesting a threesome with another resident of a home in Portland, during an afterparty following a night of drinking.

The accused attacker, a 58-year-old Portland man, is believed to have become enraged at the request from the young Warrnambool man.

The victim is reported to have received a broken nose, fracture in his lower back and many cuts and abrasions.

According to the accused, the altercation flared around 7am, where he and the victim exchanged blows, leading to the latter man’s significant injuries.

The Portland man faced the Warrnambool Magistrates Court yesterday and no application for bail was made.

He has been remanded in custody and will return to court for a contest hearing in the New Year, on February 17
