The Lions Club of Portland are food shopping for members of the community who need it.

Club president David Punton says, the club has received approval from managers of the three supermarkets in Portland - Woolworths, Aldi and IGA- for its members to shop on behalf of others.

Punton says, anyone who could not go out for health, age or mobility reasons could text (preferably) or call him on 0408121902 so the shopping could be arranged.

Meanwhile, anyone self-isolating with no access to food and essential supplies can receive emergency relief packages under a program introduced by the Sate government on Sunday.

The program will support people in mandatory self-isolation.

Each eligible house hold will receive a two week supple of essential goods.

Food packages will include items such as long-life milk, pasta, cereal, canned vegetables and sugar.

Personal care packages will also be distributed to eligible households and include soap, toothpaste and deodrant.

The packages will be delivered door-to-door.

Coordinated by the Red Cross in partnership with Foodbank Victoria and under the direction of the State Relief Coordinator, it can be accessed by calling the Victorian coronavirus hotline: 1800 675 398.
