Glenelg Shire Mayor Cr Anita Rank thanked community members for their valuable feedback collected earlier this year, which helped to shape the final project scope.
“I thank all those who took the time to submit their ideas and suggestions on the footpath upgrades for Heywood, whether in person or online. We had a total of 30 responses, which was fantastic, and identified a number of priority locations and themes regarding safety and accessibility, particularly for children and older residents,” she said.
“As a result of this community feedback, we have listened and modified the project to include some of the suggestions that were offered."
“This includes a new connection from the Apex Park to Edgar Street, and a continuation of Edgar Street to the Bowling Club driveway. These are some of the most frequented and much-loved sites in the township, and the upgrade will help to cater for the extensive foot traffic."
“Footpaths bring incredible value to local communities and thanks to feedback from the community, we are investing in the areas that are of the greatest benefit to Heywood.”
Community members can view the new footpath locations and full scope of works by visiting the Your Say Glenelg website.
Funding for the Heywood footpath upgrade has been secured through the Federal Government’s Local Road and Community Infrastructure Program.
