Tidy Towns Awards

The 1800 Glenelg Together initiative is one of 25 finalists in the Keep Victoria Beautiful Sustainable Communities - Tidy Towns Awards 2020 Social Well-being category.

The hotline is being managed by Portland District Health, which has committed to continuing the service for another three months until the end of September.

Head of the PDH, Chris Giles says,1800 Glenelg Together had been a great success in helping people during a difficult time.

“This has brought the community together to share ideas and support those in need and it will have a lasting positive impact on our region,” Ms Giles said.

“We will continue to put people in touch with the services they need and continue the spirit of collaboration which makes our community so great.”

Glenelg Shire Mayor Cr Anita Rank said the hotline had been a lifeline for many residents and she was pleased to see it continue for the short-term future.

“For many residents living in isolated areas, the 1800 Glenelg Together hotline has been invaluable – connecting them to services or programs they may have been otherwise unaware of. It has ensured all community members can access the vital local services they need,” she said.

“We are immensely proud of the collaborative work of our community groups and key agencies in launching this successful program, it is great to see this strong community spirit and innovation recognised at a state level.”
