Covid-19 and the impact to the local business community

JOINT STATEMENT FROM THE MAYOR AND CEO - Covid-19 and the impact to the local business community

Protecting the health and safety of our community remains Council’s top priority. We are closely monitoring all health updates and are responding to important Federal and State Government directives to reduce social contact to help prevent the spread of Covid-19.

We urge community members to continue to respond to the current health advice that has been issued in the interest of public health and safety:

 Please practice social distancing and reduce the physical contact with others;

 ensure you clean your hands regularly and thoroughly;

 and stay at home if you are feeling sick.

We wish to advise residents that new measures have been announced overnight by the

Federal and State Governments which will affect our local business community.

Under the new measurements the following businesses and services will be required to

immediately close until 13 April 2020:

 registered and licensed clubs (excluding bottle shops attached to these venues),

 pubs,

 hotels (excluding accommodation),

 gyms,

 indoor sporting venues,

 cinemas,

 casinos,

 entertainment venues,

 restaurants and cafes (which will be restricted to only take away and/or home

 places of worship,

 weddings and funerals (other than very small groups with the 4sqM per person rule

to apply)

It is stressed that social distancing measures within businesses must still apply.

Patrons are permitted to enter premises for the purpose of ordering food, but must leave and

not dine in.

During ordering and waiting for an order, no more than 1 person per 4sqm is permitted in

any premises.

In light of new government directives, there has been further changes to Council services and community access to facilities.

Unit further notice all recreation reserves, outdoor barbecue and playground facilities are now closed. Playgrounds with gates facilities will be locked.

Furthermore a number of public amenities have been temporarily closed. Cleaning efforts will instead be redirected to our high usage public amenities, which have demanded a ‘higher level’ of cleaning and hygiene due the current pandemic conditions.

Please check Council’s website for a full list of facilities that have been closed. We remind residents that essential Council services such as waste collection and home care will continue.

Our Customer Services Centres will remain open, however we ask that you keep visits to these sites to a minimum and instead to contact us using our website or phone. If visiting a Customer Service Centre please adhere to the hygiene and distancing protocols.
