Fire Rescue Victoria

Commences today

From today (01.07.20) Fire Rescue Victoria will come into operation.

With the establishment of Fire Rescue Victoria the MFB will cease to exist and career firefighters will move over from the CFA.

Operations Officer, Andrew Barry says there is not change to the structure of CFA.

"Probably the major change is our career firefighters have now moved over into the Fire Rescue Victoria Space."

"In relation to CFA Victoria there is really no change to the structure of CFA in that our volunteer firefighters will still respond to 000 calls as they have in the past, they will still conduct prescription burning...from roadsides and things like that. There will still be rescue capabilities and the only difference there is it will be a 100 per cent firefighting service from the volunteer firefighters." He said.

The new branding will be seen on only a few appliances in the local area.

Mr Barry said, "The appliances the FRV will go across will be the Warrnambool aerial pumper, the Warrnambool pumper and the transporter, also the Portland pumper as well. So they'll be branded as FRV appliances. All the other CFA appliances will stay as is."
