New dump point on the way for Dartmoor

Dartmoor is set to become a destination of choice for those with RV’s, campers and motorhomes, with construction underway of a new dump point.

Coordinated by the Glenelg Shire Council, the new dump point is located in the heart of the township near the Dartmoor Recreation Reserve, offering ease of access for those visiting the area.

Public dump points offer a place for users of caravans and RVs to dispose of their grey and black water, as well as sewage waste. Visiting a dump point is the most environmentally friendly method of disposing of this kind of waste.

Glenelg Shire Mayor Cr Anita Rank said Dartmoor was an obvious choice, with the township welcoming thousands of campers each year.

“The new dump point allows travellers visiting Dartmoor and the Glenelg Shire to easily, and sustainably, dispose of their water waste. We have existing dump points in Portland, Casterton and Heywood for a number of years, having one now in Dartmoor is great for advantage for our region,” she said.

“We welcome thousands of visitors to the Shire each year, with Dartmoor and the Fort O’Hare site one of our most popular camping spots thanks to its river frontage and tranquil beauty. To now provide infrastructure that will further boost visitation for the ever-growing RV market is fantastic and will ensure Dartmoor continues to thrive.

“This project has been something that the Dartmoor community have been advocating for, so we are pleased to see works commencing to deliver this community-driven project.”

The Dartmoor dump point is expected to be completed by end of October 2021.

The project is funded through the Federal Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Grants Program.
