Forest Fire Management

Forest Fire Management Victoria’s spring burning program is underway in the Far South West district.

Up to 20 FFMVic firefighters ignited a 60-hectare burn at Nangeela on the Casterton – Penola Road, around 17 kilometres west of Casterton on Tuesday (15.09.20).

Residents in the surrounding areas may see smoke from the burn until tomorrow (18.09.20).

Additional burns will occur in coming weeks, across the north of the district.

Forest Fire Management Manager Mark Mellington says, planned burning, and other fuel management works such as clearing, mowing and slashing, are part of a program to reduce bushfire risk for communities and the environment.
