Portland District Health service, CEO, Chris Giles has confirmed three new cases of Coronavirus has been detected.

These cases are close contacts of a person who received a positive test on Sunday.

There are now 12 active cases in the Glenelg Shire.

The latest cases have prompted huge demand for testing. Portland District Health CEO Chris Giles asked people to be patient while waiting to be tested.

PDH has developed an efficient no appointment drive-through testing site but Ms Giles said demand exceeded expectations and had left some people waiting for more than two hours.

The drive-through testing station will be opened this Thursday and Friday from 9am - 4pm. No appointment is required but people are asked not to rush the service at 9am.

The PDH fever clinic number is also experiencing an overwhelming volume of calls and Ms Giles again urged people to be patient.

The fever clinic can be contacted on 5521 0387 and people are asked not to ring PDH main reception for appointments.

“We understand this is very anxious times for people wishing to get tested but our staff are doing their very best to keep up with the high demands,” Ms Giles said.

Ms Giles said anyone contacted by DHHS to undergo testing due to direct contact with a positive case must self-isolate, get tested and continue to isolate while awaiting results. She said anyone with symptoms should isolate and arrange for a test.

Ms Giles praised PDH staff conducting the tests and administration staff assisting the process.

“Our staff have been exemplary during this difficult time,” she said.
